| The USWA / US Steel Career Development Program was created as part of the 1991 Master Steel Agreement, and it was initiated at U.S. Steel's Minnesota Ore Operations site (Minntac) in the spring of 1992. The impetus behind the creation of the educational benefit is to provide opportunities for Steelworkers to work toward educational goals of their choice to prepare for alternative careers or post-retirement opportunities. Funding for the Career Development Program is based on a 15-cents per man-hour worked contribution by steel companies included in the Master Steel agreement. These companies now include AK Steel, Alegheny Ludlum Steel, ALLVAC, BF Goodrich, Bridgestone Firestone, Mittral Steel USA, Republic Engineered Products, United States Steel, USS-POSCO, WCI Steel, Inc., Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. Steel company and rubber company sites now number about 53 Career Development locations. | |
